Cognitive Development
Many girls with TS will have a slightly lower IQ then other girls their age. In general, they are of "normal" intelligence but may have troubles learning math and doing tasks that require spatial skills such as reading a map and visual organization. Early consultations with a developmental pediatrition may help and a psycho-educational evaluation can be done to help determine specific needs that the girl may have. Girls with Turner Syndrome may also have a Non-Verbal Learning Disability as well as deficits in memory, attention span, and visual processing.
Social Development
Because girls with TS are often smaller and may have physical abnormalities, other children tend to do the typical thing of avoiding that which they do not understand.
Physical Development
Many of the symptoms of TS are physical abnormalities. Girls with TS are shorter, and wider than the average female and often have internal deformaties as well. This can cause ridicule and harm from those who don't understand that TS is not catching.
Emotional Development
Because Turner Syndrome can cause physical abnormalities, many girls with TS experience depression and distorted self image. Their self esteem is often lowered because of their small stature and others belief that they are unable to do things as well as a physically "normal" person.
Behavioural Development
Some girls with TS are very outgoing and open where others are more withdrawn and quiet. These behaviours are the same as in non-turner syndrome girls. There is no direct link between TS and behaviour.
